Faithful Reflections: The Two Sons
Actions Speak Louder Than Words
Story
Jesus told of a man with two sons. He asked the first to go work in the vineyard. The son initially refused, but later changed his mind and went. The father asked the second son to do the same, and he agreed right away—but never actually went. Jesus asked, “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” The answer was clear: the one who obeyed in action, not just in words.
Matthew 21:31 says:
"Which of the two did what his father wanted?" "The first," they answered. Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you."
God values obedience from the heart over empty promises.
Insight
This parable reminds us that our relationship with God is proven in what we do, not just what we say. Words without action are hollow, but even if we’ve resisted Him in the past, we can choose to turn back and obey today. God welcomes a repentant heart and delights in those who live out His will.
James 1:22 says:
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."
It’s never too late to change direction and follow Him.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve said yes with my lips but no with my actions. Give me the humility to turn back when I’ve resisted You, and the courage to live out my faith through obedience. Let my life reflect a genuine “yes” to Your will. Amen.
Daily Verse
"If you love me, keep my commands."
