Faithful Reflections: The Ten Minas

Faithfulness with What God Entrusts

Story

Jesus told of a nobleman who went to a distant country to be appointed king and then return. Before leaving, he gave ten of his servants a mina each (a sum of money) and told them, “Put this money to work until I come back.” When he returned as king, he called the servants to account. One had earned ten more minas and was rewarded with authority over ten cities. Another earned five and was rewarded with five cities. But one servant, out of fear, hid his mina in a cloth and returned only what he was given. The king rebuked him for his laziness, taking his mina and giving it to the one with ten.

Luke 19:17 says:
"‘Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’"

Faithfulness in small things leads to greater responsibility in God’s kingdom.

Insight

This parable reminds us that we are stewards, not owners, of the resources, gifts, and opportunities God entrusts to us. God calls us to use them wisely and courageously for His glory, not to hide them out of fear. What we do with what we’ve been given reveals our faithfulness.

1 Corinthians 4:2 says:
"Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful."

One day, we will all give an account—not of what we didn’t have, but of what we did with what we were given.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for entrusting me with gifts, opportunities, and responsibilities. Help me to use them faithfully and courageously, not out of fear but with confidence in You. May I live in such a way that one day I hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Amen.

Daily Verse

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."
—Colossians 3:23
