Faithful Reflections: Finding Strength in the Storm (substance abuse)
Story (substance abuse)
When someone you love is battling substance abuse, it feels like watching a storm tear through your home. I remember the heartbreak of seeing a family member spiral into addiction—broken promises, strained relationships, and a deep ache that seemed unending.
There were moments of anger, frustration, and helplessness. But amidst the pain, I clung to prayer and sought God’s guidance. Slowly, I realized that while I couldn’t control their choices, I could choose to love them, set boundaries, and trust God to work in ways I couldn’t see.
Insight
Addiction doesn’t just affect one person—it ripples through the entire family. Yet, God calls us to lean on Him during these trials. Psalm 34:17-18 reminds us:
"The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
God offers hope and healing, even in the darkest moments. He strengthens us to show love without enabling, to set boundaries with compassion, and to trust His power to restore what feels broken. How can you invite God’s peace into your family’s storm today?
Prayer
Lord, I bring my family member to You, knowing that they are hurting and in need of Your healing. Give me wisdom to love them well, strength to set healthy boundaries, and peace to trust in Your timing. Comfort our family and guide us through this storm, reminding us that You are a God of restoration and hope. Amen.
Daily Verse
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
—Matthew 11:28
